Infiniti Recalls 134,000 2005-2007 G35 Models for Airbag Wiring Repair

Infiniti announced today that it is recalling roughly 134,215 2005 through 2007 G35 sedans and coupes to address a wiring harness issue that could prevent the front passenger’s airbag from inflating in a collision.

Sedans manufactured between March 29, 2004 and August 25, 2006 are affected by this recall, along with coupes built between April 1, 2004 and May 30, 2007. According to the automaker, the wiring harness underneath the front passenger seat — which connects both the seatbelt tension and the occupant detection sensors — can become damaged, possibly creating a signal interruption.

If the signal is broken, the car may not recognize a front passenger is seated in the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle may not deploy the front passenger airbag in a collision. Infiniti has no estimates as to how many cars have exhibited this failure, but notes that there have been no reports of crashes or injuries attributed this particular issue.

Although the automaker has initiated the voluntary recall, it has yet to detail its corrective fix. Once finalized, Infiniti will notify owners and dealers of the remedy as quickly as possible.
