Infiniti Q80 Inspiration Concept Teased Before Paris Debut

The car for which Infiniti released a cryptic teaser a few weeks ago will be, just as we predicted, an extravagant concept previewing a new flagship model for the luxury brand. The Infiniti Q80 Inspiration concept fits in above the Q70 sedan in Infiniti’s naming scheme and looks to be have a dramatic design, based on this new teaser photo that shows the car’s fastback silhouette.

The Infiniti Q80 Inspiration concept will debut in a few weeks at the 2014 Paris auto show, and is said to give hints at what an “audacious top-of-the-line model” could look like in the near future. The teaser photo shows off a long wheelbase profile with Infiniti’s swoopy character lines that taper towards an interesting fastback shape at the rear.

When it reaches production form within the next few years, this Infiniti Q80 model will most likely be a sort of four-door luxury coupe intended to compete with cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Audi A7. It may be based on the same platform as the existing Infiniti Q70 sedan, possibly with a stretched wheelbase and significantly more modern, dramatic styling.

If Infiniti announces any powertrain details for this concept car, expect it to have some sort of gas-electric hybrid powertrain. The company is already set to unveil a luxury EV based on the Nissan Leaf sometime in the future, and this new flagship model could provide a good launching point for a new plug-in hybrid powertrain from Infiniti.

Stay tuned to see the full reveal of the Infiniti Q80 Inspiration concept as it premieres October 2 at the 2014 Paris auto show.
