If our last update about the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept didn’t get your engine revving enough, it’s time to get excited. More information is emerging about the potential future of the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept car, set to debut at the 2014 Detroit auto show, which includes a veritable stampede of 500 Japanese horses.
“If we built this car I would expect it to feature over 500 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque,” Infiniti president Johan de Nysschen said in a statement. “The engine we are evaluating for the Q50 Eau Rouge is a big personality, V-cylinder engine with forced induction. I think our engineers have been waiting for a project like this.”
We already knew that the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept would look the part, with its Formula One-inspired design scheme featuring extensive carbon fiber, 21-inch lightweight forged-alloy wheels, and front and rear aerodynamics rooted in the Red Bull Racing RB9 F1 car. Now that Infiniti has hinted at a possibly much more powerful future product line, Infiniti enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to should a monstrous 500-hp Infiniti Q50 ever come to fruition.
The standard 2014 Infiniti Q50 uses a 3.7-liter 328-hp V-6 powerplant, while the 2014 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid has a total of 360 hp on tap through its 3.5-liter V-6 engine and electric motor. de Nysschen acknowledges that a 500-hp Infiniti Q50 would indeed require a substantial engineering effort, but that it is not out of the realm of possibility for the Q50’s engine bay to handle.
The Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept also sports an array of performance upgrades over the regular 2014 Infiniti Q50, in addition to its 0.8-inch wider body and 0.5 inch lower stance. A high-downforce rear deck lid spoiler; carbon fiber roof, wing mirrors, front and rear bumper, and side skirts; dual-vented steel and aluminum hood; suede steering wheel with Formula One-style paddle shifters; and black-chrome accented glass fiber paneling on the center console and doors litter the list of special upgrades for the concept.
