How best to survive the type of zombie apocalypse portrayed in The Walking Dead comic books and TV series? Perhaps with this modified 2013 Hyundai Veloster, which debuted at the Future US booth at this year’s Comic Con.
Last year, a Hyundai Elantra coupe was transformed into a zombie-survival machine by way of a spiked plow, serrated blades attached to each wheel, armor plating, and an array of on-board explosives. This year, it’s a 2013 Hyundai Veloster that has been modified in honor of The Walking Dead. Painted in Vitamin C orange, the quirky hatchback dons wrought-iron window bars, hand-crafted steel armor, chain link fencing to protect the taillights, and a pair of chainsaws attached to the front bumper. It sounds perfect for slaying the undead on your morning commute.
Other upgrades to the 2013 Hyundai Veloster include saw blades on the front grille, fender flares, sand bags and shotguns mounted to the hood, a spiked baseball bat and a samurai sword fitted to the trunk, door-mounted flame throwers, and an armored roof hatch that leads to a 0.50-caliber machine gun. Inside, occupants will find control panels for managing the aforementioned weapons, steel wall reinforcements, sleeping bags, and various storage cubbies holding first aid kids, weapons, and ammunition.
It’s unclear which engine powers this 2013 Hyundai Veloster, but the base 138-hp, 1.6-liter inline-four engine might not provide enough oomph for outrunning (or running over) zombies. We’d recommend shoppers go for the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, as its 1.6-liter turbo-four engine pumps out 201 hp. Pricing for the standard 2013 Hyundai Veloster starts at $18,225 (including a $775 destination charge) and the Veloster Turbo is $22,775. We assume adding the zombie-repelling tools seen here costs extra.
