No, you’re not having a terrible nightmare. Yes, Hyundai announced at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show that it will produce a special edition 2014 Hyundai Tucson in honor of the 10th anniversary of The Walking Dead graphic novel series. Maybe we’re all having a terrible collective nightmare, after all.
Fans of The Walking Dead TV series will recognize that Rick and his crew often cruise around in a pale blue Hyundai Tucson. Rest assured, Hyundai promises that this special edition Hyundai Tucson will be better equipped to handle an onslaught of flesh-hungry zombies.
The Walking Dead Hyundai Tucson will come standard with all-wheel-drive, and the 2.4-liter direct-injected inline-four gasoline engine. The crossover receives Ash Black exterior paint featuring a red accent graphics package, as well as special edition interior and exterior badging. A unique Walking Dead splash screen will appear on the vehicle’s infotainment system for added panache.
Zombie-prep equipment such as roof rack cross rails, a black leather interior, mudguards, and custom floor and cargo mats are also included in the package, as well as a Walking Dead-themed survival pack and choice of four official faction decals. No word yet from Hyundai on whether it will offer double-barreled shotguns or battle axes as optional equipment.
Hyundai has previously displayed three non-production Hyundai “survival machines” at special events such as Comic-Con, which were dressed up with spikes, battering rams and the like. Past survival machines include a Hyundai Elantra coupe, Veloster, and, Santa Fe. Fans can also digitally custom-fit their own survival machine at http://walkingdeadchopshop.com/.
We’re not sure whether this announcement of a Walking Dead special edition Hyundai Tucson should be read as a harbinger of the apocalypse itself, but we can at least confirm that the special edition vehicle will be available in limited quantities at Hyundai dealerships beginning early next year.
