Hyundai has just teased its upcoming 2012 Veloster in a big way, revealing the side profile of the soon-to-be-revealed sporty hatchback. In the image shown, we can now see that the vehicle boasts a third side door, with two front doors and a single rear door on the passenger side of the car. Similar to Mazda’s three-door RX-8 sports coupe, the rear door should allow easier access to the Veloster’s rear seat, while maintaing a sporty profile.
Powertrain details have yet to be officially announced, but we know that a direct-injected inline-four is in the cards, most likely Hyundai’s new Elantra-derived 1.8-liter Nu series four-cylinder engine, producing around 148 horsepower. A dual-clutch transmission is also in the cards, helping the Veloster to attain a Honda CR-Z-beating 40 highway mpg. The car is scheduled for a Detroit debut later this month.
