Hyundai Releases Rendering of Next-Generation Grandeur (Azera)

Hyundai’s been hot to revamp its lineup and it looks set to continue as the South Korean automaker released renderings of its new Grandeur sedan today, or the Azera as we know it in the U.S. market.

The renderings shown are of the Korean-spec Grandeur, but given the company’s other recent product debuts, are likely nearly identical to the next-gen, U.S.-spec Azera we’ll see shortly. The Grandeur looks to have adopted Hyundai’s familial design theme, which we have to say, looks just as good on this large sedan as it does on the Sonata.

Although Hyundai’s dubbed its new design theme fluidic sculpture, designers drew inspiration from flight as well. Hyundai says that the renderings reflect a so-called Grand Glide concept, or an image of a bird gracefully gliding across the sky. No matter where the final inspiration for the sedan came from, it’s instantly recognizable as a Hyundai now and still sports a flowing, curvaceous body.

The front of the car is dominated by a large grille and LED headlights to give the sedan a premium look. The headlights sport character lines leading to and from the outer edge, creating a rather dramatic shape. Similar drama is seen at the rear of the car where a character line emerges just ahead of the rear door handles and flows around the rear of the car to become the trunk lid. The C-pillar also sports a slight kink, not unlike that seen on the new Infiniti M.

Overall, the renderings seem a little busy, but the car looks good nonetheless. Hyundai hasn’t said when they’re unveiling the new Grandeur in the flesh, but we’re excited to see it.
