Back at the 2009 Seoul Motor Show, Hyundai unveiled a special-edition Genesis sedan tailored to suit the tastes of Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli. Only three copies of that car were built, but now two years on, Hyundai is launching a larger production run of the car.
The 2012 Genesis Prada was unveiled today in South Korea, and is the result of two years of collaboration between Hyundai and Italian fashion label Prada. The car features the Genesis’s new-for-2012 5.0-liter V-8 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. Three Prada-exclusive colors are on the order sheet (Black Nero, Blue Baltico, or Brown Moro), each incorporating a gold pearl effect. The car’s grille, badges, and door handles are all finished in dark chrome — which, Hyundai says, matches the buckles on Prada bags.
To jazz-up the interior, the dashboard and seats have been recovered in Prada’s top-notch saffiano leather. Additional touches include bespoke 19-inch wheels, a unique wedge-shaped antenna and, of course, exclusive Genesis Prada badges.
Hyundai will offer 1200 copies of the car as a special-order model in South Korea, with plans to export a few additional cars to markets in Asia and the Middle East at a later date. There’s no word yet on how much the Prada treatment costs, but we doubt that serious fans of the brand will have any problem spending a little extra for the special-edition car.
