Hyundai Appoints John Krafcik CEO of American Operations

Hyundai Motor America announced today that John Krafcik, previously vice president of product development and strategic planning, is now the firm’s CEO.

The move comes as Jong Eun Kim, Hyundai’s previous CEO of American operations, has returned to South Korea to assume a position at Hyundai Motor Company’s headquarters.
Krafcik, who joined Hyundai in 2004, was previously chief engineer for Ford Motor Company’s full-size truck chassis programs, which included the Ford F-150. Early in his career, Krafcik cut his teeth on lean manufacturing techniques with NUMMI, the joint venture between Toyota and General Motors which yielded the Chevrolet Nova, Geo Prism, and Toyota Corolla, among other products.
“I am honored by the confidence Hyundai Motor Co. has shown in me,” Krafcik said in a released statement, “and very excited to help improve Hyundai’s position in the U.S. market.”
“While this is a very difficult time in the auto industry Hyundai’s extraordinary products and exceptional value offer us great opportunities now and in the future.”
Hyundai is currently searching for a candidate to fill the vacant vice president position.
