For some customers, especially in the realm of luxury brands, plenty is still not enough. That appears to be the case with the Range Rover Sport. The 510-hp 5.0-liter V-8 offered in the Sport seems to offer plenty of power by most standards, but for those that want even more, an even hotter 2015 Range Rover Sport R-S is coming soon, if these spy shots of this late-stage prototype near the Nürburgring are any indication.
The “standard” Range Rover Sport V-8 comes with a plenty robust 510-hp supercharged 5.0-liter V-8, but the R-S is estimated to raise that total by approximately 40 hp for a grand total of 550 hp. The added power infusion may be accompanied by an even greater weight loss than the already substantial drop from 2013 to 2014. Of course, with added power usually comes added heat output, and to that end, the Sport R-S appears to have a louvered hood to extract heat from the bellowing blown V-8.
The Sport R-S is expected to hit showrooms sometime in spring 2014, either as a late-introduction 2014 or a 2015 model. Market availability is unknown, but considering the New York City metro area is the number one market for the Range Rover Sport worldwide, we’d say it’s fairly certain the U.S. will get the R-S as well.
