Honda Surprises Million Mile Accord Owner with Parade, New Car

Earlier this year, we shared a video of Million Mile Joe and his 1990 Honda Accord. Joe puts about four times more miles on his car than the average person as he travels the state of Maine as a claims adjuster. Averaging 62,500 miles a year, Joe expected to hit one million miles in September this year. However, he may not have expected a ticker tape parade and a new car.

Sunday, Joe LoCicero was attending a press conference celebrating his Accord reaching one million miles. He was expecting to receive an oversized key to a 2012 Honda Accord from Ms. Maine, Ashley Marble, when Honda interrupted the press conference with a surprise parade.

The one-block parade in Saco, Maine, featured color guards and marching bands from local middle and high schools. Floats were built by local high school students. One float was a giant odometer powered by six people spinning human-sized hamster wheels. There was even an airplane banner congratulating Joe.

“Joe’s journey is a testament to his Honda’s reliability and how people have come to count on Honda for more than 50 years to get them to where they need to go,” said Tom Peyton, Honda brand manager for American Honda Motor Co., Inc, in a press release.

LoCicero began keeping detailed records when his car hit 300,000 miles and has taken more than 661 photos of his odometer. Here’s hoping his new 2012 Accord has an equally long and storied life in his stewardship.
