Honda announced today it would recall nearly 140,000 Fits manufactured from 2007-2008 in order to fix a faulty power window switch. The move is part of a worldwide recall involving the last-generation Fit affecting 646,000 Fit, Jazz (Fit in other countries), and City cars, Reuters reports.
Honda says a defective master switch could allow water to enter the power window switch and cause a fire. It’s happened several times already: twice in the U.S. and once in South Africa.
In the U.K., a child was killed when a fire started in a Fit. The recall of 2002-2008 Fits in the U.K. will begin near the end of February. There’s no word yet on when the U.S. recall will start, as it is not yet been made official through the NHTSA.
