High-Performance Range Rover Sport to be Called SVR

Last week, we showed a teaser of a new high-performance version of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, a sport-oriented SUV that we expected would be called the Range Rover Sport R-S. Now we have confirmation that this new model will actually be called the Range Rover Sport SVR, as Land Rover today issued another teaser before the SVR’s official debut this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR will sit above the existing Range Rover Sport Supercharged, which is powered by a 510-hp, 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine. We’ve heard that the SVR will make up to 550 hp from a modified version of this same engine. Given that the numerous teasers for this model show the SUV lapping the challenging Nürburgring racetrack, we can also assume that the Range Rover Sport SVR will feature some suspension upgrades and possibly some lightweight materials to shed some pounds over the standard Range Rover Sport, helping it handle curves. Expect the Range Rover Sport SVR to boast a distinctive exhaust note as well, as indicated by this latest teaser video which gives hints to the juicy soundtrack from the supercharged V-8.

Stay tuned for more information to come from this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K., where this high-performance Range Rover Sport SVR will debut along with an unknown Jaguar vehicle from the new Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations division.
