Hennessey-Tuned 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Eclipses 200 MPH on Texas Highway

With the cooperation of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), John Hennessey himself piloted a Hennessey Performance-tuned 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to over 200 mph on a closed Texas highway, the first C7 to do so. The Stingray’s momentous test run also allowed TxDOT engineers and officials to test its toll tag systems on Hennessey’s high-performance vehicles.

While Hennessey found that the stock 460-hp 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is easily capable of a no-nonsense 180 mph on the track thanks to its stunning 6.2-liter V8, real-life road conditions make that speed significantly more difficult to achieve. To reach the 200-mph mark, Hennessey jacked up the horses to 700 at 6500 rpm using the company’s HPE600 package, which adds ported factory cylinder heads, high-flow cats, long-tube headers, as well as a custom camshaft and tuning. Capping off the upgrade is a 100-hp nitrous oxide package from Nitrous Express.

In Hennessey’s video below, you can see the white Stingray whooshing by stationary cameras barely within a single frame. The car looks perfectly stable from the outside, and the interior cameras show a cool and collected John Hennessey as the 700-hp beast climbs to 200.6 mph. Texas State Troopers verify the 200-mph achievement via radar, which was also recorded by Hennessey’s own GPS data system.

Hennessey praised the newly-built Grand Parkway Texas toll road, which is located just west of Houston.

“The road is smooth as silk. Easy breezy,” he observed as he approached the crew following his impressive run.

Hennessey will offer a $22,500 HPE700 supercharged upgrade to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, which despite lacking nitrous is capable of 200-mph speeds, as well. Also testing on the same day was a gear-limited HPE600 supercharged Chevrolet SS, which reached 164.2 mph.
