On the intake side Hennessey’s team upgraded the MP4-12C’s intercooler and air intake systems and ball-bearing turbochargers and added external blow-off valves. On the exhaust side the MP4-12C received a Hennessey titanium exhaust and external wastegates. To keep the increased airflow in check, Hennessey upgraded the fuel and engine management systems and gave it a custom dyno-tuned engine calibration. To help the drivetrain cope with the additional 200-plus horsepower, the transmission cooler and clutch have also been upgraded.
“We’ve been taking fast cars and have been making them faster for over twenty years,” said company founder and president John Hennessey, in a press release. “I spent a lot of time around the new 12C at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed and was very impressed. We’re excited to have the opportunity to take a great car and give it our own special performance touch while giving 12C owners a uniquely aggressive appearance”.
Other upgrades to the MP4-12C HPE800 Twin Turbo concept include the Hennessey CarbonAero body package to increase downforce as well as cooling. The CarbonAero bodywork incorporates a new, center-positioned front air inlet and hood extractor which allows for larger heat exchangers to help improve intake charge and transmission cooling.
Hennessey said that McLaren blessed the MP4-12C with suspension and brake systems that will be difficult to improve upon and has no plans to offer upgrades. However, Hennessey did add its Monoblock wheels and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires to the HPE800. Custom interior upgrades include carbon fiber, Alcantara, and leathers.
The components can be ordered as a complete package or a-la-carte from either of Hennessey’s shops. Pricing has not been released, but the parts are covered under Hennessey’s warranty.
