Hamann Tunes the Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG

Mercedes-Benz’s G55 AMG is already one fast SUV, but German tuning shop Hamann has joined the plethora of tuners offering even faster versions of the Geländewagen.

The Hamann-tuned G55 AMG doesn’t go quite as far off the wall as, say, the Brabus monster, but offers enough power to propel the 5500 lb SUV to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds. Hamann retains the stock V-8, but cranks the power up to around 600 hp and 577 lb-ft of torque.

Hamann accomplishes this by reprogramming the engine, fitting a new supercharger pulley, and adding a stainless steel exhaust. All this power allows the G55 to reach a top speed of 162 mph without a governor. Not bad for a vehicle less aerodynamic than a brick.

Of course, no tuning job is complete without a way to differentiate the vehicle from its stock brethren. To do this, Hamann gives the G55 a makeover with a full body kit. In addition to the body kit, Hamann offers a variety of wheels ranging in size from 20 to 24 inches.

As with all Hamann products (and most other outrageous tuners), the interior of the vehicle can be completely customized from a variety of leather and Alcantara options as well as sports seats and sound systems. Even the floor mats can be customized!

No price is given, but as is the usual rule, if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.
