Grey Design Unveils Strand Craft 166 Superyacht with Matching Supercar Parked Inside

No, this isn’t a bad episode of Pimp my Ride. Swedish luxury yacht maker Grey Design recently announced its latest design that places a supercar within the belly of a superyacht.

Designed with the sleek, low stance of a supercar in mind, Grey Designs’ Strand Craft 166 is a 162-foot yacht that is the pinnacle of sea-worthy opulence. Under the 166’s skin, everything expected from a vessel its size is included along with a few surprises. The 166 is the second supercar within a yacht from the Swedish Designer. Its previous creation is dubbed the 122.

Retractable roof panels conceal radar equipment and a hot tub that are hidden from sight when not in use. A full bar and lounge accompany the one-car garage that resides at the rear of the yacht. Inside, customers can park GD’s custom-designed 620-horsepower matching SC166 Tender, or use one of their existing vehicles to fill the spot. Opting for the limited-production car may give owners the chance to stand out even further from others at the yacht club. Powered by a 4.3-liter V-8, the Tender sprints from a standstill to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 196 mph.

When traveling from port to port in a yacht of this magnitude, chances are you’ll attract attention, sometimes from the wrong crowd. If so desired, Grey Design will bulletproof the cockpit for increased safety. Maintaining its automotive theme, seating surfaces are covered in red leather and brushed aluminum trim is also plentiful.

A trio of high-power engines allow the superyacht to live up to the performance we equate with “super.” A pair of MTU 20V4000 M93L engines, each producing 5766 horsepower bring the yacht to a 35 mph cruising speed, while an additional 5600-horsepower Vericor TF50 booster engine offers a top speeds of 46 mph. Not surprisingly, the yacht is fitted with a 9246 gallon fuel tank and no range is specified.

Below its deck, five luxurious bedrooms, each equipped with 52-inch Bang & Olufsen TVs and premium sound systems, give the owner and guests the utmost in comfort entertainment equipment. An iPad functions as an information center, while providing access to many of the ship’s functions.

There’s no information on pricing, but we don’t suspect Grey Design’s customers will be held back by such details.
