Not only are Ford’s April sales up 25 percent over April 2009, but it marks the fifth month in a row that the Dearborn-based automaker has posted sales gains over 20 percent. On top of that, year-to-date sales are up 34 percent compared to 2009, and we’re only a third of the way through the year. Being blue never felt so good.
“Customers are benefiting from our strong new product lineup,” said Ken Czubay, Ford’s vice president of U.S. Marketing Sales and Service. “Our laser focus on quality and dependability is increasing Ford resale values at a higher rate than the overall industry, bringing real value to Ford customers at trade-in time and driving industry-leading customer satisfaction and higher market share.”
It’s good news across the board over in Dearborn. Ford increased its market share for the 18th time in 19 months and saw fleet sales climb 13 percent. Even resale value is up 23 percent. The F-Series trucks and E-Series vans remain at the tops of their segments and the Transit Connect posted its highest monthly sales yet. Hybrid sales were up 19 percent over April 2009 and up 55 percent over the first four months of the year compared to the same time last year.
The biggest news, as you may have guessed, comes out of the Ford brand where only one vehicle dropped sales – the Mustang was down 33 percent, likely because of the model changeover to the more impressive 2011 cars. Fusion and Edge both had their best April ever and Taurus sales were up 99 percent. The brand itself saw sales climb 26 percent.
It’s a bit of a different story over at Lincoln and Mercury. While both brands gained sales, with Lincoln up 22 percent and Mercury up 19 percent, it wasn’t the same story as the Ford brand. Fleet sales were a big factor as both Town Car and Grand Marquis sales spiked, and the Lincoln Navigator was a surprise X factor. Still, Town Car and Navigator sales combined barely eclipsed the MKZ, which was off 9 percent. The Grand Marquis, though, matched the Milan and actually outsold the Mariner.
