In GM’s February viability report to the U.S. treasury, it said the company would only support its Saturn brand until the 2012 model year. A recent report from a GM spokesperson said that “a few” parties have shown interest in buying the brand.
According to Saturn spokesman Steve Janisse, “There is interest from investors in doing a spinoff, and there are other entities interested in just buying it.” Janisse wasn’t sure whether the interested parties were other automakers.
Meanwhile, Saturn dealers are becoming anxious. If a buyer or other solution is not found by 2012, GM will phase out the brand. GM has formed a small task force of employees and dealers to look into how it could spin off or sell Saturn. Janisse said the Saturn task force wants to have a proposal to dealers by mid-April.
