Getting Hotter: Aston Martin’s V8 Vantage S Has Power Boost, New Transmission

Aston Martin is freshening its V8 Vantage with the addition of the Vantage S model. Those who jump for a Vantage S will get a new transmission, a bit more power, and other changes to set apart your Aston Martin from the one in your neighbor’s garage.

The Vantage S benefits from a new seven-speed single-clutch automated manual transmission that is 20 percent quicker in gear changes than the unit it replaces. No doubt, fuel economy will improve too. Currently, a V8 Vantage with the automatic six-speed transmission is rated 14/20 mpg city/highway. Power on the new Aston is up to 430 horsepower and the car boasts 361 pound-feet of torque.

“The Vantage S epitomizes every attribute of the V8 Vantage and pushes the driver experience beyond what we have offered before,” said Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin, “It combines dynamic exhilaration with all the charming finesse, beauty and practicality already associated with the Vantage range.”

With the S model, though, there’s likely to be more finesse thanks to the quickened steering rack ratio and a bigger front brake discs with six-piston front brake calipers. A retuned suspension and Hill Start Assist improve the driving experience and the automaker says Bridgestone has created bespoke tires for better road feel.

A new 19-inch wheel style is standard, as is a new front fascia and rear bumper. Inside, special seats and trim keep things interesting. If this whets your appetite for an Aston Martin, the company would like you to know the car is available for ordering from its global dealership network now.
