Fun to Drive, Fun to Build: Porsche 911 Configurator Goes Online

You may not be able to park a new 2012 Porsche 911 in your garage quite yet — but until you can, feel free to spec out your dream machine over and over again, using Porsche’s new configurator website.

Though buyers can still spec out other 2011 911s, both the 2012 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S now appear on the build-your-own app. Pricing for a base 911 Carrera starts at $83,050 (including destination), while pricing for the S begins at $97,350. Of course, Porsche’s famed never-ending option lists can help you inflate that figure by quite a bit. Some quick experimentation yielded a 911 Carrera with $45,000 worth of options — and a rather unusual Cognac Metallic paint color.

In any case, the new rear-engined sports car is ready to have fun, if only in digital form for the time being. Let us know what you’d do to build your dream 911 (14-way driver’s seat? 821-watt sound system? Leather everything? Wait for the other models to launch?) in the comments below.
