Ford Unveils High Gear Mustang, A SEMA Concept Designed and Built by Women

Mustang fans, keep your eyes peeled at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association show – Ford is bringing a new Mustang build called “High Gear” designed and created by an all-woman team.

The SEMA Business Network (SBN) has assembled a team of five women from within the aftermarket industry to complete the actual modifications to the Mustang. The car is question is a 2013 Ford Mustang GT equipped with the 420-hp 5.0-liter V-8 engine and six-speed manual transmission, and the SEMA-specific design was chosen by fans online from a three different options.

Ford designer Jennifer Seely’s High Gear design was inspired by luxury items like jewelry, couture clothing, and high-end architecture. The body will be dressed in satin black paint accented by LED “angel eyes” around the fog lights and rose gold accents on the grille, wheels, and mirrors. Inside, the cabin will be swathed in quilted suede and leather and trimmed with rose gold. Ford also says that the car will receive changes to the engine, undercarriage, drivetrain, and sound system, but doesn’t detail what exactly those modifications will be.

After the High Gear Mustang makes its debut at the 2012 SEMA show this fall, it will be auctioned off on eBay and the proceeds given to the SEMA Memorial Scholarship. The car will be built this summer by the SBN, which is made up of task force chair Rose Kawasaki (Exports International), project vehicle coordinator Sherry Kollien (Ford), assembly coordinator Kellie Colf (eTool Developers), PR/media coordinator Camee Edelbrock (Schiefer Media Inc.) and product coordinator Susan Carpenter (JR Products).
