Ford to Reveal 2010 Mustang Shelby GT500 at Detroit?

Some internet sites are reporting that Ford will reveal a new Mustang variant at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in January. During the live reveal of the 2010 Ford Mustang on SPEED TV, Mark Fields hinted that Ford “will reveal yet another chapter in the Mustang story” at the show.

At this point there are several theories running around. One suggests that Mark Field’s wording indicates an all-new variant of the Mustang, or a concept that will hint at a future production model. Our best guess, however, is that the “new chapter” Field’s referred to is the 2010 Shelby GT500. Spy photos of prototypes have been popping up for months now, and Ford has acknowledged that Mustang variants will survive past the 2009 model year. With the Detroit auto show less than two months away, we’ll soon find out.
