Ford Sync, Work Solutions Technologies Win CES Award

Although the Consumer Electronics Show won’t start until January, judges have given Ford a pair of Innovation and Design awards for the company’s new Work Soluions and Sync Traffic application.

Available on most (if not all) of Ford’s commercial truck lineup, Work Solutions was named the best car accessory innovation. Essentially an in-dash computer supplied by Magneti Marelli, the system allows owners to use a full-fledged PC, check inventories from afar, and print invoices from within the cab. An optional RFID tool tracking system helps prevent lost (or stolen) tools, while the optional Crew Chief technology lets administrators keep an eye on all company vehicles on the road.

Most consumers will likely be more familiar with Ford’s Sync system, which is available in most Ford vehicles (nearly 80 percent of Fords sold since 2007 have the technology). Sync’s latest feature, which provides drivers with hands-free traffic reports, turn-by-turn nagivation, and a local business directory, received an honor in the in-vehicle navigation/telematics category.

Ford is the primary sponsor of the 2010 CES show, which runs from January 7-10 in Las Vegas.
