Ford SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information Now Available

Ford had announced a couple months ago that its latest version of SYNC would be available on almost all of its 2010 model year vehicles. Conveniently, if you purchased an early 2010 model that did not come with the latest Traffic, Directions and Information features, Ford is offering a free software upgrade.

SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information pairs the best features of a portable navigation device and the features of smartphone. The system includes a GPS to provide drivers with turn-by-turn directions. It also offers traffic reports and business searches. Additionally, users can add extra features and applications to their SYNC system that can provide news, sports and weather information. The best part is that there is no subscription cost for any of these services for the first three years of ownership.

Upgrading to the latest version is easy for eligible vehicle owners. They can go to and download the application to a USB drive, and then connect the drive to the vehicle’s USB port. The update takes about 10 minutes and the user will be notified when it is complete. The final steps are to reconnect the USB drive to the computer to verify the success of the update, and then the user can log into his or her online SYNC account and activate the new features.

The update affects early 2010 Ford Mustang, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Lincoln MKZ, and Mercury Milan and Milan Hybrid vehicles equipped with Ford SYNC.
