Ford plans to let car enthusiasts get behind the wheel of the 2013 Focus ST with five driving experience programs running this summer. The Focus ST Performance Academy includes driving training and performance driving experience at the wheel of the 252-hp Ford hot hatchback. If you’re eager to be one of the first people to drive the Focus ST, this is your chance.
The events run from 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. on certain Saturdays this summer, and feature both driving instruction with professionals, and timed performance driving opportunities. Ford will bring 48-foot trailers filled with a fleet of 2013 Ford Focus ST hatchbacks for the event. Those interested are encouraged to pre-register online at www.DriveFocusST.com, as space is determined on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We want ST fans, as well as drivers of competitive vehicles, tobe able to taste this car firsthand,” Ford Focus ST marketing manager Lisa Schoder said in a statement. “What better way to do it than to bring the car to the people?”
The events will be held at IZOD Center in New York on June 30; FedEx Field in Washington, D.C. on July 14; Gillette Stadium in Boston on July 21; Candlestick Park in San Francisco on August 4; and Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles on August 11.
The 2013 Ford Focus ST uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine with 252 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual is the only transmission choice, channeling power to the front wheels. Other upgraded equipment includes a racy body kit, exclusive paint colors, firmer suspension, stronger brakes, special Y-spoke 18-inch wheels, and optional Recaro seats. The Focus ST also has an “Active Sound Symposer” that is designed to make the car sound more exciting in aggressive driving, but quieter at highway cruising speeds.
Pricing for the Focus ST starts at $24,495, after a $795 destination charge, and rises to $29,425 for the top-spec ST3 trim level. Although Ford hasn’t yet announced when the car will reach dealerships, it can be pre-ordered now. The first 1000 customers to order a Focus ST before August 20 will receive a free GoPro HD Hero2 Motorsports Edition video camera — all the better to post track-day clips to YouTube.
