Pardo, an accomplished artist, sculptor, and fashion designer in addition to his talent as an automotive designer, was one of the visible leaders of the GT project, though he managed to be involved with the creation of both the Lincoln LS and Ford Thunderbird.
Pardo started his career at Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan studios, before spending time in Ford design studios in both Cologne, Germany, and Turin, Italy. Pardo returned to the States, where he spearheaded the SVT design studio, where he ultimately crafted the GT40 concept that led to the production GT.
Though he hasn’t stated exactly why he left Ford, Pardo has told acquaintances he’s “now free to do anything” – though he hasn’t disclosed what that may be. Rumor has it Ford was forced to extend an early retirement package due to the firm’s financial troubles.
