First Official Photo of 2009 Honda Insight Hybrid

If you wondered just how production-ready Honda’s Insight concept was, this – the first official photo of the 2009 Honda Insight – may answer your question.

That answer, it so happens, is “very.” Though it loses some of the fanciful baubles of the show car, first seen at the 2008 Paris motor show, the production Insight appears to be very faithful to the concept. It’s also quite similar to Honda’s FCX Clarity fuel-cell vehicle, and we can’t help but note a remarkable resemblance to Toyota’s Prius…
No official specifications have yet been revealed, but if it’s anything like the concept, expect Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system to be coupled to a small, 1.3-liter I-4. Honda expects to move 200,000 Insights a year (half that figure in North America alone), and aims to price the Insight below the Prius’ $22,000 price tag.
We’ll know more come January, when the Insight makes its first debut at the 2009 Detroit auto show – though it won’t be revealed with a traditional press conference. Stay with Automobile Magazine for all the latest on both the Insight and the forthcoming Detroit show.
