Based on the Hyundai Azera, and sharing its sister model’s mechanicals, the Cadenza wears its own conservatively handsome suit of sheetmetal, shaped under Kia’s talented global design director, Peter Schreyer. The running gear includes a single engine offering, a 3.3-liter V-6 rated at 293 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. The corporate V-6 is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and drives the front wheels.
Like the Azera, the Cadenza will be sold in only one trim level. Kia considers the Cadenza its entry in the premium car segment, and as such has loaded it with standard equipment including leather, navigation, a backup camera, a power driver’s seat, keyless ignition, and a 550-watt 12-speaker audio system. Two option packages contain niceties such as an oversize sunroof, heated front and rear seats and steering wheel, nineteen-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind-spot warning.
Kia’s new range topper arrives in showrooms this spring as a 2014 model. Pricing has not been announced, but shouldn’t stray too far from the Hyundai Azera, which starts at $33,145.
