First Details on Audi RS4 and RS5 Emerge

We’ve gleaned a peak into Audi’s future plans for the 2009 S4, but the folks at Fourtitude managed to pry open the right doors to get some solid information on what we can expect of the next RS4 and RS5 during a recent press event in Spain.

Previous reports suggested the RS4 and RS5 would use a turbocharged form of the supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 slated for the next S4, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.; In talking with Audi engineers, Fourtitude is confident in reporting that the RS cars will use a modified form of the current 4.2-liter V-8.

The engine won’t completely be carryover; a 50-hp boost is expected for the RS4 and RS5, raising output to approximately 470 hp.; That jump may be attributed to Audi’s Valvelift technology, which engineers suggest is now capable in running in high-revving engines like the 4.2-liter V-8.

The V-8 will be coupled to Audi’s new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (no manual options were mentioned by engineers or executives), sending power through a new torque-biasing version of the venerable Quattro system.

It’s anyone’s guess as to what either car will look like, but Fourtitude‘s renderings have supposedly impressed Stephen Reil, director of Audi’s Quattro GmbH performance division.
