Just 350 Volts departed the lines of GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant to the four key locations around the United States. The green havens of California and New York were no brainers; our nation’s capitol is regarded as a critical location to have Volts on the road as well. Texas was added to the launch list during the summer. Michigan was conspicuously absent from the early roll-out list though we’d expect the Volt’s home state to be on the short list and receive their supply soon enough, especially since production is local.
“Today is a historic milestone for Chevrolet,” said Tony DiSalle, Volt marketing director. “We have redefined automotive transportation with the Volt, and soon the first customers will be able to experience gas-free commuting with the freedom to take an extended trip whenever or wherever they want.”
The Volt will first head to California, Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Washington D.C. with a base price of $41,000 before starting its nationwide sweep.
