Although the miniscule Tata Nano has yet to go on sale in its native land (the car reaches showrooms in India this September), Tata Motors is already looking to sell the car overseas – and may use Italian automaker Fiat as an ally.
Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Motors, claims he’s spoken with Fiat officials about marketing the car in countries where Fiat has a strong presence.
“I am open to such a partnership,” Tata told reporters at a press conference this morning.
Such a liaison would not only broaden the Nano’s market, but would further develop the budding relationship between Tata and Fiat.; Earlier this week, Fiat announced it would handle European financing for Jaguar and Land Rover.
Both British brands were recently acquired by Tata from Ford Motor Company for $2.3 billion.
