Ferrari factory Formula One driver Fernando Alonso scored his third win for the season at the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim this weekend. This also puts him at the top of the F1 points standings for the season. Alonso’s number 5 car was the only Ferrari factory-backed car in the top five. Teammate Felipe Massa took twelfth place.
Although Alonso won the German Grand Prix race by a comfortable 6.9 second margin, he acknowledged that he felt the McLaren and Red Bull cars, driven by rivals Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel ran stronger overall.
Rounding out the top five, Button came in second in his McLaren-Mercedes, Kimi Raikkonen took third in a Lotus-Renault, Kamui Kobayashi took fourth in a Sauber-Ferrari, and Vettel took fifth in a Red Bull-Renault.
The top five points leaders for the season are Fernando Alonso with 154 points, Mark Webber with 120 points, Sebastian Vettel with 118 points, Kimi Raikkonen with 95 points, and Lewis Hamilton with 92 points.
The next F1 race is the Hungarian Grand Prix next Sunday, followed by the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps on September 2. The highly-anticipated U.S. return of Formula One is scheduled for the Circuit of the Americas near Austin, Texas on November 18, 2012
