Fernando Alonso Scores a Maserati GranTurismo Convertible

Factory sponsorship is good. After taking the win at the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend, two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso, who joined team Scuderia Ferrari this year, has scored the keys to a new Maserati GranTurismo Convertible.

There’s no shortage of color options on the Maserati, and, for his ride, the 28-year-old picked a darker, Grigio Granito paint for the exterior, while the interior is a two-tone combination of Pearl Beige and Bordeaux leather. The soft top is a matching shade.

As we’ve reported, the wonderful-sounding Maserati GranTurismo Convertible is the functional equivalent of the S Automatic model, just sans roof. Its 433-horse, 4.7-liter V-8 is mated to a six-speed ZF automatic transmission with modified software and a shorter final gear. The centerpiece tri-layer fabric top takes 20 seconds to open or shut. (Add another 8 seconds for the windows.)

The 56 Maserati dealers in North America will receive GranTurismo Convertibles in the spring.
