Feature Flick: Watch a Nissan GT-R Take on the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring

It should come as no surprise that a car as advanced as the Nissan GT-R required years of development to become the supercar-slaying contender it is today. In a new video, Nissan shows us that development continues four years after the car’s introduction, as the GT-R is entered in the famed 24 Hours of the Nürburgring endurance race.

The near-20-minute subtitled video starts with a brief history of the current GT-R, beginning with the car’s unveiling in 2007. Once we arrive at the present day, GT-R chief vehicle engineer and race team director Kazutoshi Mizuno explains why the brand chose to contest the Nürburgring 24 in 2012. The primary goal was to test the car’s durability in a 24-hour race, but Nissan was also wanted to show customers that even a lightly modified GT-R could be competitive in top-tier motorsports. The video chronicles the team’s challenges throughout the race, which include contending with traffic and multiple trips to the pits for repairs. Though they don’t take home the win, the team manages to put the car together in time to finish the final lap.

In another video released by Nissan, the brand shows off the finished product of its crowd-sourced 370Z project. That car was customized with help from Nissan’s Facebook fans, who chose everything from the graphics to the wheels. With its matte-finished silver paint, large chin spoiler, and subtle decals, the 370Z looks a bit more tasteful than the crowd-sourced Aston Martin DB9 built by Facebook users earlier this year. Check out the two Nissan videos below.
