After blowing away most of the automotive competition in last year’s Super Bowl ads, Volkswagen is returning this year…with dogs. The German automaker has released an amusing teaser video that suggests it wants to have the same advertising impact this year as with 2011’s “The Force” about the new Passat.
Volkswagen’s one-minute Game Day teaser video features a chorus of dogs singing the Imperial March theme to Star Wars convincingly. The video even delights fans with canine versions of characters like Chewbacca and Princess Leia. How this relates to cars is anyone’s guess, but we’d imagine it has something to do with a dog sticking its head out of a Volkswagen’s window.
Which window, though? The upcoming ad could use the Passat again, or mention the new Beetle, refreshed, CC, or Jetta GLI. Whatever the case, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen automakers use dogs to good effect in ads. In the past, Subaru has taken a lower cost approach, advertising in the Puppy Bowl.
