Feature Flick: Volkswagen Reveals “Get Happy” Super Bowl Commercial

Following up on its teaser video featuring Jimmy Cliff singing, “C’mon, Get Happy,” Volkswagen has released the full version of its Super Bowl commercial called, unsurprisingly, “Get Happy.”

The clip, which will air this Sunday during the second quarter of the Super Bowl, features an unexpectedly jovial office worker from Minnesota. Despite grim conditions in his workplace — dull workdays, tiring Monday mornings — said employee is constantly upbeat and cheers his colleagues by complimenting them in an overt Caribbean accent.

Unlike the teaser video, this full commercial actually does include a Volkswagen product. It seems the employee’s joy (and speech affectation) come from driving a Volkswagen Beetle Turbo. Who knew the 200-hp coupe had such transformative powers?

“We set out to create a lighthearted and energetic ad to represent the positive energy and sunny disposition that only the Beetle and Volkswagen can deliver,” explains Mike Sheldon, CEO of advertising agency Deutsch LA.

You can watch the full “Get Happy” video below, or see it this weekend during the second quarter of the Super Bowl.
