The Volkswagen Jetta TDI and Beetle Convertible star in new ads that once again prove the automaker executes humorous spots better than most. Now a few years after the Volkswagen Passat and a mini-Darth Vader were featured in a Super Bowl ad, it’s the diesel-powered Jetta and drop-top Beetle that are the focuses of this Feature Flick.
The Beetle ad starts with a masked man entering a convenience store, and the Trololo song meme playing in the background. The man grabs armfuls of snacks while fellow shoppers duck for cover. The man then goes to pay for his food, where the clerk states he doesn’t want any trouble. With sirens in the background, the man makes his escape in a 2013 Beetle Convertible.
VW’s other ad touts the Jetta TDI’s up-to-609-mile range. With the diesel-powered Jetta having such long legs, it gives the driver reverse range anxiety when he’s forced to deal with an annoying passenger over a long trip. The Jetta Hybrid may have a Jetta-TDI-beating 48 mpg on the highway, but with its smaller fuel tank, overall highway range is about 571 miles.
Which ad do you think is the best?
