Feature Flick: The Caparo T1 Takes On the Nurburgring

/a>Gran Turismo 5’s Red Bull X1 may be the ultimate digital race car, but the equally wild (and visually similar) Caparo T1 may be one of the ultimate road cars in reality. Although the car’s specifications alone are impressive, a new video of the T1 at the Nürburgring shows just what the car is truly capable of.

British auto magazine EVO was recently given the pleasure of piloting the superfast (and super expensive) T1 around the famed German racetrack. With Phil Bennett at the (carbon fiber) steering wheel, the T1 blitzed its way around the 12.9-mile course, overtaking a pair of Porsche 911s, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, a Jaguar XF, and a Nissan 350Z in the process.

Although it’s hard to discern exactly how hard the T1 is to handle from simply watching a video, it appears Bennett had few qualms keeping the purpose-built, 1300-pound machine in check over the challenging track. That’s impressive, considering the lithe curb weight and the massive 575 horspower whipped up by the T1’s 3.5-liter V-8.

Sadly, EVO’s film doesn’t show the entire lap around the Nürburgring, so we’ve no idea what Bennett’s final lap time was. We do know, however, that the folks at Caparo are anxious to set an official lap time at the course. In fact, they’re gunning to break Stephan Bellof’s world record of 6:11:13, which was set in 1983 with the use of a race-spec Porsche 956.
