Feature Flick: Subaru Talks Tech in Videos

Safety nets, crash tests, and tech

Listen up, nerds: if you’ve been wondering what makes Subarus so safe, how a horizontally opposed engine is made, or what the heck “X-Mode” is, we have some answers right here, courtesy of Subaru.

The “answers” we’re talking about are a series of videos, named Subaru Wow! The YouTube clips, about 90 seconds each, take a look at Subaru’s brand, history, and products. In the boxer engine video we see how Subaru uses robotic carts, digital imaging, and lots of care to make the signature horizontally opposed engine that powers all of its products. The X-Mode video shows how vehicles like the Forester link together electronic traction/stability control, all-wheel drive, and anti-lock brakes to increase stability in low-grip and off-road situations.

As for the question of safety, there’s a video that shows Subaru’s history of crash testing, complete with cameos by a select few crazy technological features like a pop-out pedestrian net and energy absorbing/spring loaded steering column. All we can say is that it’s a shame neither made it to production.

Take a look at the videos below, and find more like them at Subaru’s YouTube page.
