Feature Flick: Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG Explores Wintery Sweden on Epic Drives

Jonny Lieberman takes racer Justin Bell to the Arctic Circle in the Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG on the latest Epic Drives. The pair explore Sweden in their V-12 SUV on their way to the AMG Winter Driving Academy, held on a frozen lake.

The story began when the automaker suggested Lieberman attend the driving academy on a frozen lake near the Arctic Circle in Sweden, to which he replied that it would be better if he could drive there in the twin-turbo 6.0-liter V-12 powered G65 AMG. Debuting in 1972, the G Wagon has slowly evolved adding luxury and power through the years. As the epitome of the G Wagon, the G65 AMG’s hand-built engine cranks out 612 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.

After reaching Sweden, the duo spends the evening at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Stockholm. A few hours north of the Swedish capital, Lieberman and Bell see a sign welcoming them to China. After briefly stopping, Bell comments that he is “culturally confused” by the scene. After taking a ferry to a small island Lieberman and Bell announce they have reached the “real” Sweden with nothing but sub-freezing temperatures, snow, and bowed-over trees. Once they finally reach the Mercedes Winter Driving Academy, the duo drift an SLK55 AMG around a frozen lake.

Check out the video below to see if the G65 AMG is capable enough to take Lieberman and Bell past the frozen lake and all the way to the Arctic Circle on this Epic Drives. What vehicle would you choose to conquer the Arctic Circle during the winter?
