Feature Flick: McLaren MP4-12C Runs the Nurburgring Nordscleife in 7:28

The new McLaren MP4-12C has put up a good fight as a British alternative to the Ferrari 458 Italia. Now, McLaren has taken its car to the famed Nurburgring and managed to top the Ferrari around the track by about 5 seconds.

McLaren took a production-intent car to run the ‘Ring for its first official timed run at the track. With Pirelli test driver Rudi Adams behind the wheel and equipped with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, the MP4-12C made it around the Nurbugring Nordscleife in just 7 minutes and 28 seconds. The 458 allegedly did the same lap in just under 7 minutes and 33 seconds.

The McLaren MP4-12C is powered by a mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8, producing 592 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. In turn, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends that power to the rear wheels. Check the video below to see some of McLaren’s footage from its ‘Ring test session.
