To mark the delivery of the first McLaren 12C Spider to a U.S. customer, the company has released this video of the convertible supercar racing a snowboarder down a snowy mountain pass.
The video features Pikes Peak winner Rhys Millen behind the wheel of the 616-hp 12C Spider, and Winter X-Games medalist Chanelle Sladics on a snowboard. Millen generously gives Sladics a ride up to the top of the 11,990 Loveland Pass in Colorado, sliding the McLaren’s tail out gratuitously around each corner of the winding mountain road. At the top, Sladics steps out of the car and onto her snowboard, setting the stage for a race between woman and machine.
McLaren notes that the 12C Spider, which debuted at last year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, has a dedicated winter mode that optimizes the traction control and engine for use in slippery conditions. That helped Millen avoid wasting all of the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine’s power as wheelspin. Fortunately, he still manages to have fun with the car, giving us a chance to hear its furious exhaust note as the car drifts, slips, and slides around the mountain road.
The McLaren 12C Spider costs $268,250 after destination charges and is sold through ten dealerships in North America.
