Is the 2013 BMW Alpina B7 an improvement over the 750i or is it just another hot rod from an aftermarket tuner? On this Feature Flick, Motor Trend’s Carlos Lago takes the Alpina B7 to the test track and some canyon roads to find out.
Besides the visual enhancements, the BMW Alpina B7 recieves power and suspension tweaks that bring the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 to 540 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. At the track, the Alpina B7 hits 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and finishes the quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds at 113.6 mph. Stopping from 60 mph takes a mere 104 feet thanks to the chassis and brake upgrades. Around the skidpad, the 4700-pound-plus luxury sedan pulls 0.89 g and goes around the figure-eight in 25.8 seconds at a 0.75 g average. Impress numbers indeed for the large sedan.
