Presidents’ Day is always a good time to buy a car—it’s one of the major holidays that manufacturers celebrate with discounts on their new products—so we shouldn’t be surprised that OEMs are rolling out fun Presidents’ Day sale ads. What did surprise us, however, was how Honda’s new TV advertisement went from selling cars to showing former presidents trying to be…seductive.
Some of our readers might remember Jimmy Fallon’s “Slow Jam the News” segment, when Fallon teams up with The Roots to sing a song about current events in the style of a 1990’s R&B slow-jam. Fallon’s performed the bit a few times, even featuring guest stars like NBC News’ Brian Williams and President Barack Obama.
The Honda ad has the same look and feel to it, but instead of a sitting president, it’s a pair of former presidents (or, rather, Lincoln and Washington look-alikes) and a fife-and-drum corps instead of ?uestlove and his band. The final product is memorable, even if only for making us chuckle awkwardly.
