Rally racing has found a receptive audience in North America, aided in no small part by the popularity of the road-going models of the race cars, the Subaru Impreza WRX, and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. In the fifth installment of “Launch Control” Subaru Rally Team USA’s mini-documentary YouTube series on its race teams, two of the team’s top drivers attempt to rack up a second consecutive win.
David Higgins and Craig Drew of Subaru Rally Team USA go into the 100 Acre Wood in Missouri. Ken Block has historically been dominant at this venue, but Higgins and Drew are hoping to score an upset victory over block. The night before the race, a snow storm suddenly changed race conditions, but the duo remain confident in their prospects. At the end of the first stage, Higgins and Drew are slightly off Block’s pace, but believe they can close the gap in the coming stages.
Some clunking noises coming from the rear of the car cause some concern for the team, but last-minute inspections and repairs get the car in top running order before the race. The slick, slushy conditions of the Missouri winter don’t slow them down, and Higgins and Drew take the podium in the 100 Acre Wood rally.
