Feature Flick: Ferrari Teases New V-12 Model, Will Replace 599

We already knew that the Ferrari 599 was due for a replacement in the near future, but now we have a firm time frame. The Italian automaker recently confirmed the new supercar – which is codenamed the F620 – will be revealed next week.

Ferrari has also now confirmed that the 599 replacement will continue to boast a V-12 engine. Official specifications are still forthcoming, but it most likely bears a close resemblance to the 6.3-liter V-12 used in the Ferrari FF – albeit tuned to make it “the most powerful Ferrari ever.” If so, it needs to best the FF’s 651 hp and 504 lb-ft of torque. For the record, that will also trump the 599 GTB’s 6.0-liter V-12, which is rated at 611 hp and 448 lb-ft of torque.

The new car will probably retain the front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout of the 599, instead of  adopting the FF’s 4RM all-wheel drive system. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see a hybrid variant – first previewed with the 599 HY-KERS concept in 2010 – also join the lineup. Since the FF serves as a proper four-seat gran turismo, the new car will likely offer room for only two occupants.

The latest Ferrari will most definitely be at the Geneva Motor Show next month, but Ferrari has slated the official unveiling for February 29. Until then, check out the video below for a sneak peek, along with a hint of its sonorous exhaust note.
