RallyCross may be new to the U.S., but that hasn’t kept the sport from attracting well-known racers from other race series. In this Feature Flick, four RallyCross drivers take a closer look at the sport.
RallyCross racers Liam Doran, Travis Pastrana, Bryce Menzies, and Ken Block discuss RallyCross in America and what it’s like to switch from other race series. Unlike rallying series that involve racing against the clock from point A to point B on public roads, RallyCross drivers race powerful all-wheel-drive rally cars against one another on small closed courses. But like most rally racing, the drivers face changing surfaces and weather conditions as they lap the course.
Menzies shares the challenges he has faced switching from an 850-hp two-wheel-drive Pro 2 truck to a 650-hp all-wheel-drive Dodge Dart rally car. The former off-road racer turned to DirtFish Rally School to learn how to control his new lightweight RallyCross car. Check out the video below to hear the racers discuss history, challenges, and excitement of RallyCross as well of the future of the series in America and the 2012 Summer X Games.
