Which high-performance Chevrolet is faster on a race track — the Corvette ZR1 or the Camaro ZL1? That’s the question that Chevrolet fans will now be able to answer thanks to this pair of videos, which show the aforementioned sports cars tackling Virginia International Raceway.
The comparison pits two of the most powerful new Chevrolet cars against each other. We ran a similar comparison recently, although we pitted the less-muscular 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport against the new Camaro ZL1. Predictably, the results are a little different when you stack the ZL1 against the wicked ZR1.
The in-car videos show the two cars being piloted by professional drivers around VIR’s 4.2-mile Grand Course configuration. To refresh your memory on the important figures: the Camaro ZL1 uses a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8 engine with 580 hp and 556 lb-ft of torque. The Corvette ZR1, meanwhile, uses a similar supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V-8 engine with 632 hp and 604 lb-ft. Both come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, although the Camaro ZL1 can be ordered with an optional automatic transmission.
Which of the two cars was quicker around VIR? You’ll have to watch the in-car videos — embedded below — to find out.
