Feature Flick: BMW 335i Up Against the Audi S4 in This Week’s Head 2 Head

It’s a battle between two German sport-luxury sedans on this week’s episode of Head 2 HeadMotor Trend associate road test editor Carlos Lago believes the BMW 335i and the Audi S4 represent the very best in their segment, but only one can be named top dog.

Audi sports a supercharged V-6 that produces 333 hp and 325 lb-ft, the Bimmer uses a turbocharged straight-six good for 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. The S4 may have the power advantage on the spec sheet, but the BMW one-ups the Audi by reaching peak torque at just 1200 rpm. To discover how that power translates on the track, Lago puts both cars to work.

At the track, Lago notes that both cars are similarly sized, although the Audi is a tad bigger. Looking inside, Lago is more keen on the BMW’s red leather interior, while he worries how the Alcantara in the Audi will wear in the long run. Overall, the S4 bested the 335i’s 0-60 mph time, quarter mile time, figure-eight time, and stopping distance.

Before he makes his final conclusions, Lago takes the cars out for a spin on the windy roads of Malibu because in the end, a car  isn’t all about its specs, but about the way it drives. See the full episode below to find out which car Lago says is worth every penny spent.
